Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP) and the PSHE Association have partnered to create a report discussing key principles of effective practice in prevention education.
The report outlines 11 key principles that help PSHE education professionals to teach high-quality online safety education as part of their broader PSHE programmes. These principles derive from research about what works in preventive education with children and young people.
Features of effective prevention education include:
- A developmental programme which is appropriate to pupils’ age and maturity
- Theory/research-based and factual content
- A positive approach, avoiding ‘scare tactics’ or confrontational strategies
